Part of the University of Oregon Division of Student Life, Student Government Engagement and Success (SGES) empowers students to become future community leaders through experiential activities in governance, self-advocacy, and leadership. Our team of professional and student staff members coordinates services and support for ASUO's Officers, the student leaders within ASUO-Recognized Student Organizations, and students who find themselves in adverse positions with the university.

Our effort has a positive impact internally as well as institutionally.

Internal Impact

  1. Personalized Support: We provide tailored advising, coaching, and support to ASUO Officers, student organization leaders, and students, helping them navigate university processes and strengthen their self-advocacy skills.
  2. Educational Programs: We design and deliver education, leadership development, and continuity programs that equip students with the knowledge and tools to advocate effectively for themselves and their communities.
  3. Administrative Oversight: We manage the administrative and financial support services of ASUO, ensuring student initiatives adhere to university and ASUO-managed policies, rules, and standards as well as state and federal law and safety standards.
  4. Career Readiness: We offer meaningful work experiences that build career-ready skills for students employed within our department.

Institutional Impact

  1. Student Engagement: We champion the value of student engagement by educating the campus community on its contributions to university life and advocating for its ongoing support.
  2. Leadership Continuity: We strengthen the continuity of student government leadership by providing transitional support, particularly during ASUO’s annual elections, empowering students to pursue their goals and advocate for their needs.
  3. Compliance and Alignment: We ensure that student-led initiatives align with institutional standards and comply with state and federal regulations, promoting accountability and sustainability.
